The Friends Guild of the Destin Library will host an afternoon conversation with Coast Guard veteran, inspirational speaker and local author Ashlee Leppert on Tuesday, March 14th, at 2:00 PM at the Destin Library (Calhoun Room).
Saving lives during Hurricane Harvey in 2017 is only a glimpse of the experiences that Ashlee Leppert writes about in her book, “The Hurricane Within.” Leppert served as a helicopter mechanic and flight crew member for the Coast Guard for 14 years. She medically retired in 2019 and now lives in Fort Walton Beach. While she was only 34 when she retired, Leppert felt compelled to spread the positive messages from her life experiences. In her memoir, she not only talks in detail about helicopter rescues, but also her own battles with post-traumatic stress disorder and sexual assault.
Leppert’s passion is to spread inspiration and positivity to people who may feel a little bit down with their own life circumstances. It is my hope that when people hear my stories, and read my book, they will feel a little bit lighter during the heavy days that they're going through.” Leppert hopes her book provides the general public with a better idea of what the Coast Guard does.
Come join us on February 14th, for a robust afternoon of conversation and insight from an inspirational speaker and seasoned veteran of the United States Coast Guard.
