Event Details

Come experience a movie adventure at the Mary Esther Library.    Check out the movie matinee at the Mary Esther Library!  It happens on the 4th Saturday of each month.

The July movie matinee adventure will be on Saturday July 27 at 2:00 PM.  The feature film, The Boy and the Heron  (2023) had it's theatrical release in December 2023.   It won the Best Animated Feature film award at the 96th Oscars.

The film is rated PG13.  It is recommended for ages 10 and up due to some language, smoking, and a fire.  Anime legend Hayao Miyazaki came out of retirement to make this film.   Set in 1940s Japan during World War II, the opening scene shows a fire raging through a hospital, spreading to consume everything in its path -- including the mother of young main character Mahito. Three years later, now 11, he moves to the countryside, which introduces new mysteries. He's bullied and roughed up at school, then intentionally gives himself a bloody head injury. After that, he's able to access an "other" world, where parakeets are giant carnivores (some have knives) and a fire-powered girl protects the innocent.

Popcorn with tasty seasonings is provided.  You may also bring your own movie-friendly snack and drink with a tight lid.

Seating is first come first serve.
