Event Details

Have you every wanted to learn more about those flying, feathered friends that we share our planet with?  So do scientists from Cornell University!  The Great Backyard Bird Count (Feb. 13-16, 2026)  is an international citizen science event that happens every year where citizens can help the scientists get a snapshot of the bird populations worldwide by submitting your bird observations from your corner of the world.

On Friday, Feb. 13 from 2:00-4:00pm we will explore Oak Tree Nature Park to learn about the birds that live there, count them, make a bird seed ornament to take home when it sets, and learn all about how to record the number of birds you see for as little as 15 minutes during the Great Backyard Bird Count, then enjoy some hot cocoa.

The trails at Oak Tree Nature Park are mostly stroller friendly.  Wear comfortable walking shoes and bring drinking water.  If you have binoculars bring them.  There will be a limited supply of binoculars to borrow.

We will meet at the Mary Esther Library first then we will go to the nature park after learning about the GBBC.
